Dramatic Encounters: Artistry, Community and Scholarship in Drama Teaching is the first major book undertaken by Drama Queensland. It aims to share best practice and innovative ideas from classrooms across our vast state.
The Drama Queensland committee were originally approached by Associate Professor Madonna Stinson with an idea she had to record some of the exceptional relationships which have been developed between schools and industry, as well as community programs which provide unique learning experiences for students.
While this publication does indeed share some remarkable stories, we are aware of how many more teachers and students are engaged in workshops, artists in residencies and community partnerships, and other exciting and generative work of this nature. We hope that their stories can be shared and celebrated as well.
It has been a gift to be involved with Drama Queensland and part of such a special publication. We are consistently humbled by the extraordinary talent we have here in Queensland. Sincerely, and from the bottom of our arts-education-loving heart, thank you to everyone involved in this project. To all the teachers out there in their classrooms who strive every day to provide a safe, positive but challenging and rigorous learning space for our kids, thank you. Not all heroes wear capes, but Drama teachers sure do look good in them.
