Title: Senior Drama Queensland style: enhancing student performance

Description:
This presentation will explore how to enhance the opportunities for Year 11 & 12 students to demonstrate the Drama syllabus objectives and standards through the design of effective assessment and the use of resources such as annotated student responses. There will be a specific focus on written tasks from Forming and Responding. This session will be of value to Queensland teachers seeking to enhance their senior students’ learning and achievement. It will also be relevant to inter-state colleagues who are interested in the Queensland system of externally-moderated school-based assessment that allows for a flexible approach to implementing the syllabus in the school context. Schools and teachers are required to purposefully design assessment and make evidence-based judgements which are subject to external moderation.
Biography:
Debb Wall is the Head of The Arts and Languages at Capalaba State College (P-12) where she teaches Drama & German. Debb is Queensland Studies Authority’s State Review Panel Chair for Senior Drama. She is co-author of Dramactive 1 & 2 with Madonna Stinson.
Shauna Bouel is a Senior Education Officer in the Quality Assurance Unit at the Queensland Studies Authority. Shauna’s responsibilities include training review panels and advising schools on syllabus implementation, assessment design and moderation processes. She has had twenty years of experience teaching Drama.

Title: Delve into industry: Cert II in Live Production, Theatre and Events

Description:
This workshop will explore the nationally-recognised Cert I in Creative Industries and Cert II in Live Production, Theatre and Events and the different ways to set them up and deliver them using the courses at Clairvaux MacKillop College as models. Representatives from the industry, the Queensland Studies Authority and VET will be invited to attend.
Biography:
John Daly has been a Drama teacher for over 15 years and has taught Drama Studies for the last 6 years at Clairvaux MacKillop College.

Title: Delve into Drama Basics

Description:
The workshop will look at a variety of games and activities that can be used when teaching the Elements of Drama and improvisation. Primary teachers, beginning secondary teachers and teachers new to drama will benefit from the workshop. The workshop will allow teachers to: ask questions about how to get drama started in their classes; be shown a basic unit and scope and sequence which can be run for junior students; participate in some games and activities; be shown how activities and games can be used as learning opportunities.
The aim is to build the confidence of teachers who want to use drama in their classroom. Teachers will leave with a CD which will have an array of resources. Participants should wear comfortable clothes
Biography:
Anna Telford works at Good Shepherd Catholic College in Mt Isa as the Academic Coordinator of the Arts department. She has directed plays for the Mount Isa Theatrical Society and runs an after-school primary programme called Harlequins. Anna and her students have been active in the local eisteddfod, and Queensland Theatre Company initiatives.

Participants will delve into the magic of Shel Silverstein's work in this practical and engaging workshop, where they will get to create part of their very own mini Children's Theatre show. Using Silverstein's poems as a pre-text, they will engage in fun, whimsical and magical activities to create a performance. All of the work and activities can then be taken straight back into the classroom for immediate use. If you've ever listened to the mustn'ts or listened to the don'ts, listened to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, and the won'ts, this workshop is for you.

Marion Welsh has been teaching Drama in Queensland for nine years, the last seven of which have been in Brisbane.

Title: Confessions of an Absurdist

Confessions of an Absurdist is a practical workshop that provides learning experiences which enable participants to explore the role of the actor in the interpretation, adaptation and performance of an Absurdist text. Participants will discover a toolbox of activities that can assist them in developing lessons that build students’ understanding of the aesthetics of Theatre of the Absurd. This workshop is particularly suited to those teachers who may have previously felt intimidated to “delve” into this style.
Biography:
Tanya Neilsen is an experienced actor, producer, director and Arts educator with 15 years’ experience on a national and international level. Tanya is currently the Head of Drama at Brisbane Grammar School. Since 2007, Tanya has also worked as a Sessional Teacher in the Creative Industries Faculty at QUT.
